Sopaipillas

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Lard or shortening
  • 2 Cups Flour, A11 Purpose
  • 2 Tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 2/3 Cup Water, Lukewarm
  • Oil for Frying
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Honey

Directions

  1. Cut lard into flour, baking soda and salt completely
  2. Sprinkle in water 1 Tbsp at a time, tossing with a fork until all flour is moistened and almost cleans side of bowl
  3. Gather dough into a ball and refrigerate for 30 min.
  4. Heat 2" oil to 400 deg.
  5. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 12" X 10" rectangle
  6. Cut into 2" X 3" rectangles
  7. Fry 3 or 4 pieces at a time until puffed and golden brown, turning once
  8. Drain on paper towels
  9. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon

  • Serve with honey
