Chili Con Carne

2 Cans Cooked Tomatoes (large)
1-1 1/2 Lbs. Ground Beef
2 Medium Onions (coarsely chopped)
2-3 Jalapeno Peppers (finely chopped)
2 Bay Leaves
1 Medium Green Pepper (coarsely chopped)
2 Tbsp. Chili Powder
1 1/2 Tsp. Cayenne Pepper
1 1/2 Tsp. Crushed Red Pepper
3 Cloves Garlic (finely diced)
1 Tsp. Sweet Basil
11/2 Tsp. Black Pepper
Salt (to taste)
Olive Oil
In a heavy pot, heat oil and saute onions until opaque.
Add jalapenos, chili powder, red pepper, garlic, basil, cayenne pepper, bay leaves, black pepper and salt and saute a few minutes to spread flavor.
In a separate pan, brown ground beef and drain off grease.
Add beef to pot and mix well.
Crush tomatoes and add to pot along with their juice.
Bring to a boil and add green pepper
Reduce heat and simmer at least 1&1/2 hours.
Spice amounts are approximate according to taste for hotness.
Serve over white rice with crusty bread and butter.
